  • So, is this another "nothing happened before the WWF piece," or are we actually gonna see people like Ronnie Garvin or George "Crusher Broomfield/One Man Gang/Akeem" Grey in this? The really fascinating stuff about Randy and the Poffo Family is their time running their ICW promotion, which isn't well documented, outside of those of us who saw it. Lanny only speaks of it in terms of lost opportunity to go to Los Angeles and running against Memphis and pretty much begs off talking much about it.

Done being a Hogan fan at 6 years old and became a fan of the Macho Man ohhhhh yeahhhh! He just seemed like a character out of a comic book or Saturday morning cartoon just larger than life, bombastic and unreal. The flying elbow drop to the heart is still one of my favorite finishers in pro wrestling. Ohhhh yeeeaaahhhh! Can you dig it!

  • Hogan will always be the greatest, but he has this weird habit of lying when his ego is threatened. "They weren't trying to upstage me..." (Yep, they were.) This reminds me of how he spent YEARS telling people he never did a full run with Jake Roberts because "the chemistry wasn't there", before finally admitting he made that up. (The truth = they worked a match, some of the crowd cheered for Jake, Hogan freaked out and refused to work with him again)

  • Upstage? If we're talking about in-ring performance, that macho/steamboat match upstaged every match that night, with ease. It's an amazing and iconic match. But let's not pretend that Hogan/Andre wasn't the most memorable and iconic part of that night (and possibly of the 80's), it obviously was. Just Hogan and Andre's presence alone, trumped even the "5 star" Macho/Steamboat match.

I hated when Savage turned heel again during the Mega-Powers break-up, kinda bummed me out, but nevertheless, during the peak of his career Randy Savage was easily the best wrestler AND talker on the planet. • I still say Andre and Hulk had the better storytelling and match. I never expected these two monster heavyweight to do 135 wrestling holds and have 22 false finishes. In '87 I didnt care about that AND I knew Steamboat was going to win, but NO ONE knew who would win in the main event which made the match more intense for me. Plus, as far as the endings to both matches go Steele interfering vs the most iconic moment in mania history puts the main event over SvS too; Andre v Hulk was just a better match experience for me. Last point- Steamboat vs Savage happened on Saturday morning tv and was an incredible match and started the feud with the "crushed larynx" angle, maybe Rosenberg is talking about after that match??? idk, but in did happen and it was a great beginning to their classic, unforgettable mania match that put the IC workhorse style on the map.

  • I think it's extraordinary how WWE has it's programming on so many different outlets lately. They've been on Fox now for over a year with the Smackdown show, they just moved the entire WWE Network to NBC's Peacock streaming service and here they are partnering with A&E (owned by Disney, who also owns ABC) to air new Biography episodes and a new show to find lost WWE artifacts. While I suppose it says something for the brand that they are this successful during probably the most pronounced creative slump the company has ever experienced, I just don't see how long it can be sustained. For me personally I am very disappointed that the WWE Network has been gutted. The idea to house all of wrestlings past present and future in this one convenient media hub was brilliant and after a few years of growing pains the Network was hitting it's stride. For me the Vault is the reason to really subscribe, having wrestlings history on demand is incredible. They were really making great progress with their documentaries and series, the search tool and ability to go to a select match on a timeline was brilliant, etc. All of that is lost on Peacock. You can't even find the different PPV's because everything is given a season and episode number designation! It's not SummerSlam 1992 anymore it's SummerSlam season 8, episode 1. Utterly ridiculous. And now they produce these cool new Biography episodes with A&E and they aren't on the Network. It's like why have it now? Their entire business model is bizarre and is unsustainable. Such a waste...

  • The first person on the Mt Everest of pro wrestling biographies...without a doubt, is Ric Flair. A very very close second is the Macho Man. The Steamboat & Savage angle alone, needs 2 hours to be properly told. Hogan saying S&S werent trying to steal the show and Steamboat saying the opposite, reminded me of Rick James talking about grinding his boots in Eddie Murphys couch.
